Make sh*tty marketing fail faster.

A small irregular white shape on black, sending out ever larger copies of itself in rings

Marketing has become so easy, anybody can do it, right? At least that's the promise of the thousands of AI-powered marketing tools flooding the feeds recently.

Just type in a prompt or the link to your website, and the miracle machines figure out the rest. You get a marketing plan and ready-to-ship content in minutes, for the price of a Big Mac — who wouldn’t want that?

From the perspective of marketers who are chronically overworked, understaffed and underfunded, I get that this sounds tempting. Especially if you’re a one-man show in a company that’s struggling in the current market (and are there any who aren’t?).

So by all means, I’d test the hell out of it. If only out of sheer curiosity, not necessarily to save the agency fee. And maybe the results will be amazing and better than anything you’ve ever had before.

There’s only a small caveat that seems to get ignored far too often in the “AI changes everything” marketing conversations these days:

The machines do not understand your brand. Or know your intent.
They just process and amplify whatever you feed them.

If your website content, marketing strategy and brand foundation are sharp and solid, the output can be pretty good and work for your goals.

But if your foundations are crappy, contradictory and stuck in legacy gravity, AI will amplify that as well. The output will still be massive and impressive at first glance. But look closer, and you’ll get tons of shiny assets and average tactics that help you become much more efficient at doing the wrong thing.

The good news: AI will make sh*tty marketing fail faster, while looking more beautiful than ever.

So let’s explore new ways to do things better than ever. But check ourselves — and our foundations — first, before we wreck ourselves.
